There is no doubt that Portugal is one of the best countries in producing milk, cheese and butter.
This is all due to the fact that we have vast green spaces that are worked by our farmers. And that is why we are a globally renowned agricultural reference.

With over 67 years of history, the first certified dairy factory was established in Esposende.

And we’re immensely proud to have Lacticínios das Marinhas, as it is known today, as one of our suppliers for the breakfast we offer at B28 Apartments.

Our guests delight in these natural products, and we share one of our oldest memories: enjoying our slow-fermented bread, bought here in the neighborhood, with the wonderful flavor of the low-fat cheese from Lacticínios das Marinhas.
And let’s not forget the butter, served in individual portions so that you fully enjoy it.

Founded in 1954 by Amílcar & Reinaldo Castilho

But it all started in 1939, when small butter producers from the region settled in the municipality of Esposende, in the northern region of the country, very close to Porto. And so ‘Lacticínios de Esposende, Lda’ was created, together with the National Board of Livestock Products, which allocated quotas to each one.

Eventually going bankrupt due to high cost challenges, it was later acquired by a family that continues the production to this day as it did in 1954, under the famous name Lacticínios das Marinhas, a name chosen in homage to the town where the factory is located, the parish of Marinhas.

And Why is This Brand so Important?

“Our cheese continues to be unique because it’s low-fat, doesn’t have food coloring, preservatives, anti-mold, antifungals or external coating. It is made exactly like in 1954.” – still produced in a 100% natural manner, A motto they wear on their skin, and one that aligns with our values.

Every day, the Marinhas Dairy factory receives between 15,000 and 20,000 liters of cow’s milk from Póvoa de Varzim, a neighboring town, and this is how they control the process.

“We don’t buy cream; we produce butter from the cream that is removed from the milk to make low-fat cheese,” says Berta Castilho, one of three siblings currently running the factory.
