There's no doubt that Portugal is one of the best countries for producing milk, cheese and butter. This is all due to the fact that we have lots of green spaces that are exploited by our farmers. And that's why we're a renowned reference for the world in the field of agriculture.

Over 67 years old, the first certified dairy was born in Esposende.

And it is with great pride that we have the Lactícinios das Marinhas as it is now known, as one of the suppliers for the breakfast we offer in B28 Apartments.
Our guests delight in these natural products and we share one of the oldest memories we have. That of being able to enjoy our slow-fermented bread, bought here in neighborhood, with the wonderful taste of the low-fat cheese from Lacticínios das Marinhas.
And let's not forget the butter, served in individual portions so that you don't leave a piece untried.

Founded in 1954 by Amílcar and Reinaldo Castilho

But it all started in 1939, when the region's small butter manufacturers set up in in the municipality of Esposende, in the north of the country, very close to Porto. Lacticínios de Esposende Lda was thus created together with the Junta Nacional dos Produtos Pecuários (National Board for Livestock Products), which allocated quotas to each one.

Eventually bankrupt due to cost difficulties, it was later taken over by a family that continues to manufacture as it did in 1954, under the famous name Lacticínios das Marinhas, chosen in honor of the land where the factory is based, the parish of Marinhas.

And why is this brand so important?

"Our cheese is still unique because it is low-fat, with no colorings, preservatives, antibolors, antifungals or external coating. It's made just as it was in 1954." - still produced 100% naturally, a motto they wear on their skin and which is in line with our values.

Every day, the Lacticínios das Marinhas factory receives between 15,000 and 20,000 liters of cow's milk from Póvoa de Varzim, a neighboring town, and this is how they control the process.
"We don't buy cream, we produce butter from the cream that is removed from the milk to make the low-fat cheese," says Berta Castilho, one of three siblings currently in charge of the factory.
