This December we had special events with Khao Suppers and we couldn't be happier with the friendship that has developed over the last two years.
Here's a small sample of what we had the pleasure of following.
Every year B28 has a special Christmas dinner and this year we had the privilege of hosting the Christmas Dinner at Casa Ganapati, the Yoga school of Porto, with the Khao Suppers leading the event and yes - we accepted the challenge of opening the doors to 40 people (we know, crazy but crazy good).
This time Punam chose the buffet format, serving a variety of starters right up to the famous main course, but never skipping dessert. The atmosphere was one of celebration and conversation among friends.
It was a special Christmas dinner, with flavors that took us to the north of India, a country that some students of this yoga school are used to visiting on their annual retreats.
We would definitely advise you to follow Ganapati House for more information on classes, yoga practices, retreats and events.
in On Saturday, December 16, a partnership between Khao Suppers e Marisa Vieira Yoga for a special day.
Punam from Khao Suppers presented Chai, a famous hot drink made with black tea and spices.
Each ingredient was explained, how each one interacts in this aromatic blend, the process for obtaining this drink and as well as having the privilege of tasting this wonder during the Workshop and Lunch day, we also made our own chai sachet to take home and repeat!
The day was one of intimacy and the sharing of knowledge, of conversations between friends, acquaintances and strangers, where those who hadn't met ended the day as if they had been friends for a long time.
Before the magnificent lunch that awaited us, we started by having a chat about spices, one of which we know very well in Portugal as curry, and we were absolutely amazed by what curry leaf is!
The fresh curry leaf is the main ingredient in curry mix, but did you know that what we know as curry mix is a complex blend of dried curry leaves with pepper, saffron, cardamom and other spices? And then depending on the type of curry it will have another spice base, such as Madram, Garam Masala, etc?
It was funny to realize that what we think of as a basic condiment that is on the shelf in every kitchen is not so basic after all and has much more to it than we think!
As we talked, Punam told us how in India we can find lots of Portuguese influences that are part of her family heritage, such as potatoes. Many traditional Indian and especially Gujarati dishes are vegetarian and vegan, and one of the most used ingredients is the potato! It's used as a base for sauces, in vegetable mixes for pies, dumplings, curries and much more. And until the Portuguese went to India, the potato wasn't known there at all - and here we see how the world we know is shrinking, how we all have an influence on age-old traditions, like
We were fortunate enough to try another delicacy from Khao Suppers, this time the famous Indian dish Dhal - we can describe it as almost like a stew of lentils and spices that warms the soul on winter days.
This type of dish is served with rice and because it can sometimes be slightly spicy for some palates, yogurt is added to accompany it.
It was a day of special sharing between all the participants and we saw a different side to dear Punam.
What's the point of living if we don't have different experiences throughout our lives?
Let's hope we continue to surprise, learn, meet more people and have the opportunity to open the door to you!
